PAYLESS TO DIOR

Growing up, I didn’t wear name brands; our family of 7 had to make do on my Dad's single salary..

In junior high, I desperately wanted a pair of Vans sneakers. One day I saw a pair of lookalikes at Payless, but they didn’t have my size. The saleslady pointed to a huge bin of single shoes, and said I could try looking for a matching pair.

I literally remember hanging head first over the edge, digging for shoes. Bingo! I finally found a pair – not exactly the same color, but close enough.

I proudly wore them the next day, until the cute guy at school, Craig Davis, pointed to them and said: “Those are fake — My mom wouldn’t buy those for me even if I wanted them!” I was crushed.

⭐️These days I love my designer shoes, but I never forget where I came from, and the hopes and dreams of that young girl in the mismatched Vans.

⭐️That’s why I’m passionate about mentoring and supporting young students and young doctors -- to support their dreams.

⚡️No matter where you come from, what’s more important is where you’re going.
