ANSWERING YOUR RETINOID QUESTIONS

Many of you have DM’d me questions about Retinoids, so I’m answering some FAQs.

❓   CAN I USE RETINOIDS AROUND MY EYES?
Answer: YES! Studies show that even prescription-strength tretinoin, the most potent Retinoid, can be safe and effective at softening fine lines around the eyes – IF used correctly.

⭐️  Start with a mild version, like @rocskincare  Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Eye Cream
⭐️  Use it 2-3 times a week and build up as tolerated
☠️   AVOID upper eyelids!

❓   CAN I USE RETINOIDS WITH VITAMIN C?
Answer: YES! I often have my patients use a Vitamin C serum in the morning as an antioxidant shield (I carry @skinmedica Vitamin C + E Serum in my office). I advise using a Retinoid at night for repair and collagen boosting.

⭐️   If you use them TOGETHER, apply the Vitamin C first (water soluble) THEN the Retinoid (oil soluble). Otherwise the Vitamin C has a hard time penetrating through the Retinoid.

❓   HOW DO I AVOID REDNESS?
Answer:  I often start patients on a Retinaldehyde product before I graduate them to a prescription tretinoin.  This ingredient is stronger than OTC Retinol but gentler than Rx-strength tretinoin or adapalene (Differin). The one I have in my office is @aveneusa Retrinal Intensive Cream.

⭐️  Wait at least 20 minutes after washing your face to let your skin dry completely.  Even after you towel off, your skin is still damp – like when you try to put on leggings or jeans after you get out of the shower!

⭐️  When your skin is damp, the Retinoid molecule penetrates too quickly.

⭐️   Also try using a thin layer of moisturizer before applying your Retinoid.
