WHAT IS NIACINAMIDE?

Many patients ask me about this ingredient and whether they should be using it. Here’s the scoop:

❓  WHAT IS IT?

A: NIACINAMIDE is a form of Vitamin B3.  It’s one of my favorite ingredients for Rosacea and Sensitive Skin because it’s safe & gentle enough for most skin types.

❓ HOW DOES IT WORK?

⭐️ ENHANCES SKIN BARRIER, which is vulnerable if you have sensitive skin or Rosacea.

⭐️ CALMS REDNESS & INFLAMMATION So you can also use it with Retinoids or If you have Eczema.

⭐️ BRIGHTENS DISCOLORATION so it’s a good option if you can’t tolerate Retinoids or other actives.

⭐️ REGULATES SEBUM so it’s good for OILY OR ACNE-PRONE SKIN.

⭐️ It’s an ANTIOXIDANT to help protect and promote Collagen.  Some studies show it helps soften fine lines.

❓HOW TO USE IT?

A: You can use it once or twice a day, under moisturizer if it’s your only active.  Or you can layer it over vitamin C or Retinoids. For my patients with very sensitive skin,
I have them apply it first, next to their skin, to help them tolerate other actives.

❓ BEST NIACINAMIDE PRODUCTS?

A: Here are some of my current favorite products with Niacinamide:

* Acure Radically Rejuvenating Niacinamide Serum ($19.99 at Target). This brand is vegan and cruelty-free 🐇.

* La Roche-Posay Niacinamide 10 Serum ($39.99 at Ulta). Hydrates with Glycerin and Sodium hyaluronate.

* E.l.f Power Grip Primer + 4% Niacinamide ($10 at CVS).  Just picked this up at CVS last week. I have greasy skin, and this primer keeps my foundation from melting off my face.
