GROWING UP
I had a birthday recently, which I looked forward to — but that wasn’t always the case.
Remember when you couldn’t wait to get older & turn 18 or 21? Eventually, though, you start dreading the next birthday. I know, because that’s how I felt until several years ago.
Then I realized that I had a lot to be thankful for, so I changed how I thought about my chronologic age.
You see, around that time a (male) orthopedic surgeon told me that my nagging knee pain was due to my age & that “a woman YOUR age” shouldn’t be skiing 😤.
At first, I felt sorry for myself and my older body. Then I decided to prove him wrong: I made it a priority to get stronger and did more mobility work. Guess what? No more knee pain and I’m skiing better than I did 10 years ago.
Now, I really look forward to my birthday. After all, as I tell my patients: we’re not getting old, we’re growing up!
Who’s a fellow Aquarian and/or Skier ❄️? Happy Birthday 🎂!
