My Family’s Favorite Grilling Recipe

My family is originally from Taiwan (like Jason Wu and Jeremy Lin), so we like garlic with everything. Besides being tasty, garlic contains several antioxidants, including compounds that have been shown to inhibit the growth of basal cell carcinoma and melanoma cells. In addition, garlic extract has been shown to speed wound healing and to lower blood pressure. The next time you grill, try this recipe from my brother-in-law, Steve, whose garlicky chicken is a family favorite, and the most delicious I’ve ever tasted:

Steve’s Grilled Garlic Chicken

Put 10 to 12 thighs and drumsticks in a gallon Ziploc bag. Whisk together and add to bag:

3 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper, 8–9 garlic cloves, minced (about 3 tbsp), and 2 tbsp water.

Refrigerate for 30 minutes, turning bag over after 15 minutes.

Grill chicken as desired (you can also bake).

Before serving, whisk together and drizzle over the grilled chicken:

1 tbsp honey mustard, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 3 tbsp olive oil,1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried), 1/4 tsp salt, and1/4 tsp pepper or to taste.

Enjoy!
